Nilambur: Two men have been taken into custody after a Class 10 student died from an electric shock caused by a trap set for wild boars. The suspects — Vineesh of Vellakkatta and Kunjumuhammed, both known troublemakers in the area — have reportedly confessed to the crime, and their arrests will be formally recorded soon.

Vineesh has been identified as the prime accused, with Kunjumuhammed named as the second accused. Vineesh admitted to setting the electric trap to catch wild boars. Police also received information from locals that Vineesh had previously trapped and sold wild boars.

Vineesh and Kunjumuhammed are known habitual offenders in the area. Eight months ago, a similar incident occurred when a coconut worker died after being electrocuted by one of their traps. According to local residents, such traps are frequently set up by the duo across the region, and their regular practice is to sell the animals for profit.

Out of fear of retaliation from the two, who are said to be drug addicts, locals had long hesitated to approach the police. However, following yesterday’s tragic incident involving a school student, residents finally came forward with the information. Acting on the tip-off, the police took Vineesh into custody for questioning. During the interrogation, Vineesh confessed to the crime.
