Thiruvananthapuram: When things turned volatile at the ‘Pooram ground’, NDA candidate Suresh Gopi was presented as the action hero who emerged as the savior of the people, said senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. He was presenting the opposition's adjournment motion in the assembly regarding the ‘Thrissur Pooram disruption’.

“Suresh Gopi received facilities that ministers K Rajan and R Bindu did not have. He could not have reached the Pooram ground in an ambulance without police support,” he said. “Was this possible without the consent of ADGP Ajith Kumar? The ADGP was paving the way for Suresh Gopi to gain favor with the people of Thrissur,” Thiruvanchoor added.

Thiruvanchoor listed eight major points where the government had failed in handling the Thrissur Pooram. “The police treated the public who had come to participate in the festival as enemies. It was the state government that appointed an inexperienced police officer as Thrissur City Police Commissioner, whose overzealousness only exacerbated the situation,” he said. “Even the Devaswom board employees were stopped by the police. This shows the deliberate intention of the police to flare up public sentiments. They were acting on behalf of someone to disrupt the Pooram that day,” Thiruvanchoor stated.

“The ongoing police investigation is a farce. We demand a judicial investigation into the conspiracy behind this,” he said. This is the third consecutive day that the opposition has moved an adjournment motion in the assembly.
