Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan dismissed rumours that Congress Working Committee member and MP Shashi Tharoor might join the CPM. Muraleedharan said no person with common sense would believe that a leader of Tharoor’s international stature would board the CPM, which he described as a “sinking ship.”

He mocked the speculation, saying that suggesting Tharoor would join a ship that is about to sink along with the captain and all, was a joke fit only for April Fool’s Day. Muraleedharan acknowledged that Tharoor may have some grievances within the Congress, particularly over his name not being mentioned at the Mahapanchayat convention. However, he clarified that this was not Rahul Gandhi’s fault, as Rahul merely read out a list given to him and did not deliberately try to sideline Tharoor.

Muraleedharan said he expects Rahul Gandhi to take the matter seriously and speak directly with Shashi Tharoor. He noted that since Tharoor is not a full-time politician, such incidents might hurt him more. Muraleedharan added that even though leaders like himself were excluded from discussions held in Delhi, he did not raise complaints because the party is currently on a “war footing.” With elections approaching, he said such issues need not be discussed, and the party’s goal is to move forward united and secure victory.

Muraleedharan also said that Shashi Tharoor’s services are crucial for the party’s victory in Thiruvananthapuram for the upcoming election. He reiterated that Tharoor will remain firmly with the Congress and will work actively for the party’s success.
