Thiruvananthapuram: A Muslim League leader from the district has alleged that a Congress leader blocked him from displaying the flag of IUML in a ‘UDF programme’ in the state capital.

League district committee member Vembayam Nazeer said the Congress block president Sanalkumar asked him to rather take the flag to Pakistan.

The incident happened at a protest event in Attipra in Thiruvananthapuram.

It was a UDF event and the RSP flag was also displayed. When I placed the IUML flag, he threw it away and shouted at me. He asked me to take it to Malappuram. When I reminded him that the programme was organised by UDF, he said Muslim League's flag was not allowed, said Nazeer.

He further argued with Sanalkumar and told him that League was the second biggest party in UDF. He replied that Nazeer can rather take the flag to Pakistan, he said. I felt really bad. Not even BJP workers from the area will say something like that. Is this the culture of Congress, asked Nazeer.

However, Sanalkumar denied that he made any such comments. "It is true that I asked him to remove the flag. It was a Congress programme. If they bring their flag, others too may follow. But I did not throw it away or make any such comments," he said.
