Thiruvananthapuram: CPM General Secretary MA Baby has responded to the stance taken by senior leader G Sudhakaran, who recently said that he no longer wishes to continue in the party, citing neglect and ridicule from the party leadership. Baby acknowledged that Sudhakaran is upset but clarified that nothing from him would create difficulties for the CPM or the Left.

Baby said Sudhakaran’s recent Facebook post merely expressed his displeasure over certain remarks. He added that CPM leaders are in touch with Sudhakaran.

“Nothing from G Sudhakaran will create any difficulty for the CPM or the Left. His Facebook post was only a reaction expressing displeasure over certain remarks. We are all in contact with him. We hope that his vast experience and abilities will be used in a way that benefits the Left Front,” Baby said.

Sudhakaran had recently posted a strongly worded Facebook note criticising state secretary MV Govindan and district secretary R Nasser.

He had earlier expressed dissatisfaction over being sidelined in the last Assembly election as per party norms. After turning 75, he was removed from the party’s state committee in 2022. At present, he is active in a branch under the district committee office. He had also openly said that he was interested in contesting this time.

During a district secretariat meeting held last week, his name had come up for consideration in the Ambalappuzha constituency. However, Govindan, who attended the meeting, reportedly said that there was no need to discuss leaders who had been sidelined as per party norms. When asked by the media whether Sudhakaran’s candidature would be considered, Govindan said there was no such consideration. Sudhakaran’s Facebook post followed these remarks, alleging that Govindan had ridiculed him.
