Iron roof collapses near Thrissur bus stand during heavy rain. No injuries reported, but IMD issues orange alert for the region.

Thrissur: A fatal accident was narrowly avoided in Thrissur on Friday after strong winds and heavy rain tore off a large iron roof from a building adjacent to the Corporation office, sending it crashing onto the busy Municipal Bus Stand Road. No injuries were reported.
According to police, the incident occurred during a period of intense rain and gusty winds, which left the usually crowded road mostly deserted a factor that helped prevent a major mishap.
The fallen roof, composed of heavy iron sheets, completely blocked traffic. Fire and rescue teams were promptly deployed to the scene and began efforts to remove the debris. Officials noted that the operation was taking time due to the sheer size and weight of the roofing materials.
Eyewitness confirmed the roof had already sustained damage during rainfall last week. The leader of the opposition in the Corporation Council revealed that concerns about the damaged structure were raised in a recent meeting but were not acted upon by the administration.
As clean-up operations continued, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Thrissur, warning of more rain and strong winds in the coming days. Residents have been urged to stay indoors during severe weather conditions and to report any hazardous structures or incidents to local authorities immediately.
