Bengaluru: The mortal remains of Oommen Chandy, former chief minister of Kerala, have been kept for public homage in Thiruvananthapuram.

The special flight carrying the remains of Chandy who died on Tuesday early morning took off from Bengaluru international airport at 1 PM and landed at Thiruvananthapuram international airport around 2:20 PM. The body was taken to Puthupally House, his residence in the state capital. Thousands of Congress workers and others queued up on the road and joined the ambulance to the residence in Jagathy.

Earlier, a huge crowd bid goodbye to the Congress leader in Bengaluru, including prominent opposition leaders who were meeting in Bengaluru.

His body will be kept for public viewing in Durbar Hall in the secretariat. People in the capital city will have another opportunity to pay tributes to Chandy at St. George's Church Palayam and at Indira Bhavan-the KPCC headquarters.

The body will be taken to Kottayam on Wednesday morning. It will be first taken to Thirunakkara Maidan and later to his ancestral home in Puthupally at night. The funeral is at St. George Orthodox Valiya Pally, Puthupally.

Several national leaders including president Droupadi Murmu, prime minister Narendra Modi, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, chief ministers of several other states, and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi condoled the death of the former Kerala CM.
