Kannur: Providing employment to the sister of Shuhaib murder case accused in a hospital managed by the Congress has stirred up a controversy in the party.

The beneficiary is the sister of 4th accused in the case, who is a native of Kakkayangad. She was appointed as nurse at Indira Gandhi Co-Operative Hospital in Thalassery. KPCC member Mambaram Divakaran is the president of the hospital.

The controversy was stirred up as Congress, which portrayed Shuhaib as the victim of CPM’s political violence, themselves offered job to the kin of an accused in the case.

The official explanation was that the appointment was made based on the recommendation of Kanichar area committee former president. However, Congress workers felt that the party leadership’s decision cannot be approved at any cost.

Congress workers have come forward with sharp reactions regarding the incident. The Kannur District Congress Committee responded that they have come to know of the development and assured that an investigation will be held.

Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Shuhaib’s father said the Congress leadership apologised to him for the incident. “They have promised to rectify the situation,” he added.
