Kozhikode: The accused in the Shuhaib murder case, Akash Thillankeri who was taken into custody under the KAAPA (Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act 2007) has been released. The action came after the KAAPA advisory committee found that the KAAPA evoked against Akash was invalid.

Within a week of being released from his six-month imprisonment, Akash was arrested under KAAPA for a second time on September 13 while he was attending the naming ceremony of his daughter. Muzhakunnu Police took Akash into custody based on a special order issued by the District Collector on the recommendation of the District Police Chief (rural). This was in response to Akash beating up the jailer in Viyyur jail.

The accused’s family had filed a complaint seeking reconsideration of the action taken against him. This is when the advisory committee reviewed the case and found that he could not be taken to prison under KAAPA for the new case and ordered for release of Akash from custody.
