In the wake of dialogues about ‘beauty standards’ which followed the controversial statement made by Kalamandalam Sathyabhama about a Mohiniyattam dancer, inferred to be R L V Ramakrishnan, actor Manikanda Rajan has now come forth in support of the dancer. Manikandan took to his Instagram handle to voice his contempt regarding the infamous statement. He also shared a picture of Ramakrishnan and himself standing beside each other.

‘A response to Sathyabhama: We are human beings. We were born in this land. We are artists. That is our mark. We will sing, dance, and act. Those with good intentions who are interested in watching, will watch us perform. Gone are the days when you used to sit at home and command who should do what. This is a different era,’ he captioned the post.

Many other renowned personalities also came forth in support of Ramakrishnan. The dancer himself has responded to the comments through a Facebook post saying Sathyabhama should face legal action for her remarks. Sathyabhama, on the other hand, refuses to tone down or retreat from her comments.
