Kozhikode: Indian media today faces many challenges. Be it news poisoned by hatred, polarised views or efforts by the authoritarian regime  to control what is printed and said, everything seems to stand in the way of an ideal media world. The fake is amalgamated with the fact in such a manner that it becomes almost impossible to detect the truth.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)  poses challenges like ‘deep fakes’ while opening up new pastures of limitless possibilities. In such exigent circumstances, the need for free and fair journalism and media practices is paramount. Upholding this view, “Mathrubhumi’ is organising a seminar tiltled ‘Sacred Facts’.

Kochi is gearing up for  prominent media persons to come together and discuss the issues plaguing the media world today. The event will be held at the  Gokulam Park Convention Centre, Kaloor, Kochi on October 8. Entry is based on registration.

Rana Ayyub, Media Activist, Writer and Columnist for the Washington Post will participate in the session on the contemporary media world . Shaz Mohamed, Sharique Samsudheen and Karthik Murali will interact on the penetration of new age social media into the space historically held by traditional media. Abhilash Mohan will moderate the session.

The afternoon first session will deal with the increasingly disappearing genre of investigative journalism. Josy Joseph, investigative journalist, author and founder of Conclave Media and  Leena Gita Reghunath, writer and prominent journalist , will engage in this discussion.

Theimpact of Artificial Intelligence on media will be deliberated upon by data scientist Srinivas Kodali, digital-data-multimedia journalism expert Devadas Rajaram and Boom Live Senior Editor Adrija Bose. Flowers TV Managing Director and Chief Editor of 24, Sreekandan Nair, B Sreejan, the News Director of The Fourth Media Platform, Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, journalist and political critic and Dhanya Rajendran, Editor and Chief of The News Minute, will speak on the conflict between the government agencies and the media.
