
Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time in Kerala, a successful robotic pediatric surgery for cancer was performed at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The Surgical Oncology Department at RCC carried out the procedure on a three-year-old boy from Nepal.
The surgery, which aimed to remove neuroblastoma from the child’s left adrenal gland, was carried out using advanced robotic technology. The child was discharged from the hospital on the third day without any complications.
Robotic surgery is known for its precision, as well as its ability to reduce pain, bleeding, and recovery time for patients.
Minister Veena George praised the medical team at RCC for their successful performance of the surgery.
The procedure was led by Dr. Shaji Thomas, Dr. Sivaranjith, Dr. Ashwin, Dr. Dinesh, Dr. Mary Thomas, Dr. Priya, and Head Nurse Indu.
