Police are investigating conflicting claims by estranged parents after a 10-year-old disabled boy sustained 40% burn injuries in Kollam.

Kollam: A cloud of mystery hangs over an incident in Mynagappally here, where a 10-year-old boy with disabilities sustained severe burn injuries. The child, Akshay, is the son of Suja and Jayakrishnan, residing at Suja Bhavan at Kadappa here. The incident took place on Sunday.
Suja and Jayakrishnan are currently estranged, and the child lives with his mother. Akshay is a student at the Manovikas Special School in Sasthamcotta.
The boy's father, Jayakrishnan, has filed a complaint alleging that the injuries were intentionally inflicted on the child. However, the mother, Suja, stated in her official deposition that the hot starchy water from boiled rice accidentally spilled onto the child's body while he was trying to handle it.
The Sasthamcotta Police have not registered a case yet, but are currently in the process of recording detailed statements from those involved. The child, who has suffered approximately 40% burns, was initially admitted to the Kollam District Hospital and was later shifted to the SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for advanced treatment.
