Thiruvananthapuram: The protocol officer at Thiruvananthapuram airport was recalled after the intervention of Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan.
Members of the police force continued to remain at the airport even after immigration responsibilities were handed over to Intelligence Bureau.
Jayaghosh, the UAE consulate gunman, had remained working at the airport before he was appointed as gunman at the consulate. This appointment had become controversial later. NIA is investigating whether the gunman had any role in the smuggling activities.
It was in this context that the report of an officer from revenue department continued to work for several years at the airport came out. After examination, it was made clear that the revenue department did not have any role in the airport. The department found out that the officer was appointed there to accompany top level civil service officers when they reach the airport and to make all necessary arrangements. Following this, the minister intervened to recall the officer.
