Thiruvananthapuram: The recommendation made by the Pay Revision Commission regarding extension of service for government employees who will retire this year, is likely to be rejected by the state government.

Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said that the government stance is against increasing the retirement age.

Meanwhile, some of the Opposition associations started protest expressing displeasure over the salary hike recommendation.

Isaac asked the protestors to consider the financial situation of the state before criticising the move.

The 11th Pay Commission has recommended to delay the retirements by ne year. This would in effect result in increasing retirement age and halting new appointments.

With the elections around the corner the state government is unlikely to take a favourable stance to the recommendation that would invite displeasure from the public. Isaac also hinted at the same.

The present recommendation of salary hike itself will put the government in crisis. Plans and expenses are being cut short to continue. The recommendation is being approved at a time when the government has no income. The protesters should see the point, he added.

The recommendations made by the Pay Commission have to be approved before the election notification. Hence the decision will be taken in the cabinet without an evaluation by the sub-committee, Isaac further said.
