Thayyeni (Kasaragod): A couple who had been living separately for 9 years have decided to spend the rest of their lives together. A relief camp opened in Thayyeni following the monsoon disaster became the unlikely setting for the couple's reunion. 88-year-old Tharayil George Thomas and Mary George, natives of Koyilampara in Thayyeni, decided to reunite at the relief camp.

Both had migrated to Koyilampara from Alappuzha. They got married at the age of 42. Though they had no children, they lived happily together in the early years of their marriage. However, following some minor differences, the couple began living separately in two houses in 2017.

They reached the camp at Thayyeni Government High School after a landslide occurred in the area the other day. Their story came to light when MR Sivaprasad, a lawyer with the District Legal Services Authority, and paralegal volunteer Sindhumol were interacting with the people at the camp. Following discussions, the couple decided to reunite.

The two will no longer return to their separate houses in Vaikkanam, Koyilampara, after leaving the camp. They have given a written assurance to MR Sivaprasad that they will move together to Mary's small house at Palavayal. The camp residents celebrated the couple's reunion and joined them for a photo session.
