Kannur: The deadline for regularising the buildings which were constructed violating rules has been extended again. Earlier, the deadline was extended multiple times and this time it has been extended till March 31 which is 1136 days after the notification was issued.
The rule that allows to regularise the illegally constructed buildings by paying a fine was notified when new building rules were imposed in 2018. The regularization was allowed for buildings constructed before July 31 in 2017. However, it is alleged that extending the date will result in further rule violations and irregularities.
The notification issued on February 20, 2018, directed that the building owners should apply within 90 days to regularize the buildings. This was extended for 270 days in a notification issued on June 20 in the same year.
Later, notifications were issued on November 18 in 2018, June 14 and December 13 in 2019 and June 6 in 2020 extending the deadline. All the time limits ended on December 31, 2020 and the LSG department issued the fresh notification on February 5.
