Thiruvananthapuram: A team of experts will conduct inspections at ration shops in the state in wake of recurring disruptions of E-POS machines. 

The state government has decided to conduct inspections on account of the spiraling complaints from the beneficiaries.

An expert team from National Informatic Centre (NIC) in Hyderabad, which possesses the supervisory charge of the E-POS servers, will carry out the inspections.

The department of food supplies forwarded a complaint letter to NIC as technical glitches in ration distribution became a recurring dilemma at the end of each month. Minister GR Anil will meet union minister Piyush Goyal if the issues remain unfixed. 

Alternatives used to record supply

The ration dealers rely on the ‘Fusion’ mechanism if the biometric system fails to work. In ‘Fusion’, two fingerprints of the beneficiaries will be recorded to document the supply of the ration. If both the biometric system and the ‘Fusion’ mechanism fail, the beneficiary has another option to get the ration. The ration shop owner needs to send a request so that the beneficiary will receive an OTP. If the procedures fail even after receiving OTP twice, then the ration will be made available after manually recording the data in the register.
