Kochi: The Indian Railway has introduced affordable meal options for passengers travelling in general coaches. As per the reports, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is now offering two lunch options priced at Rs. 20 and Rs. 50.
Branded as ‘Janata Khana’, the meal of 'Puri and baji' is priced at approximately Rs 20. Train passengers can also opt for lemon rice or curd rice at the same price. A vegetarian lunch platter costs Rs. 50, and if available, the same goes for masala dosa. Additionally, 200 ml of drinking water is available for just Rs 3.
This service has started at Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kochuveli, Nagercoil, Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town, Varkala, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Aluva, and Thrissur railway stations.
The counters are set up at the place where the general coaches would likely halt. Currently, over 150 counters in 50 stations have been set up by the Western Railways. This service has been implemented at 100 key stations in the country.
