Malappuram: As the organization veers toward a veritable state of stagnation, protests begin to simmer within the Muslim Students Federation, the student wing of the Muslim League.

According to insiders, it has been six years since membership renewal has taken place. Based on the constitution of the organisation, the period of membership is for two years. It usually gets extended to one more year in connection with membership campaign and some other programmes. But, the present situation in the organisation, which runs into sixth year of stagnation, leads to protest from many students regarding the functioning of the organisation.

It is said that the existing panchayat, unit and mandalam committees have not been restructured since the formation of the committees six years ago. The district committees came into force five years ago and has not been reorganised since then. The state committee has already entered into the fourth year in the office. Meanwhile, a section of the students allege that, some non members have joined into the ranks of office bearers in place of those who had stepped down from their posts.

The renewal of membership was last taken up in August 2018. Many people have lost their opportunities to become members and leaders of the organisation due to lack of proper reorganisation. The delay in conducting the membership campaign has been a subject for discussion even in the state committee. Still, nothing has taken place in this direction, so far.

It is alleged that the delay in the renewal of membership is to provide opportunities for the existing office bearers to continue in their posts. It is also alleged that, the restructuring of the committees is being extended till the election youth league office bearers. They also allege that attempts are being made to raise the upper age limit from 30 years.

Meanwhile, state leadership has explained that steps have been initiated to restart the membership campaign. An announcement regarding this is expected in the last week of May. The reason they cited for the delay is the outbreak of Covid which had slowed down the organisational activities.
