Plants and vegetables can now be grown without plastic pots. Pots made of organic fertilizers can be used for this purpose. Cherodu native Pradeep Kumar was the man who came up with this idea. He used the mix of organic fertilizers to make the pot.

Cow dung is the major component of this mix along with saw dust, soil and coco peat powder. These components will be mixed in a specific ratio and the pots made through specially made machines. The machine can be worked manually.

Using this equipment, up to 15 pots can be made in an hour. It has to be dried in the sun for three days. Pradeep Kumar says that after adding soil into these pots, there isn’t any need to add any additional fertilizers. It can be used for six months without any breakage if water is sprayed to it at regular intervals. Later, when the plant has grown in size, it can be buried into the soil with the pot.

Earlier, saplings used to be grown in plastic bags. However, with the bans implemented on plastics, farmers were wondering how would they plant the saplings.

The pots available in three inches, five inches and six inches. Although it is expensive than plastic bags, it does not need much fertiliser.

Although these pots are made for his personal use, Pradeep Kumar is ready to take it to market provided there is enough demand for it.
