Thiruvananthapuram: The police will now investigate the case involving Sheela Sunny, a beauty parlour entrepreneur from Chalakudy, who was allegedly framed in a false drug case. The Kerala High Court recently directed that the case, initially investigated by the Excise Crime Branch, be handed over to the police. The police have already informed the Excise Department about taking over the case.
M.N. Narayanadas, accused in the case, had his anticipatory bail application rejected by the High Court. The investigation was transferred to the police due to elements of conspiracy involved. A special team will be appointed soon to carry out the probe.
What happened?
On February 27, 2023, following an anonymous phone tip-off, Excise officials conducted an inspection and allegedly found LSD-like stamps in Sheela’s bag. She was arrested and remained in jail for 72 days. However, forensic tests later confirmed the absence of drugs on the stamps, leading to her acquittal. Following this, Narayanadas was named as the accused by the Excise Crime Branch for framing her.
Having faced immense hardships, Sheela has now taken up work as a caregiver at a daycare centre in Chennai to rebuild her life.
