Thiruvananthapuram: The Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court held a hearing today to hear the defense arguments in the high-profile Sharon Raj murder case. Greeshma (22) and her uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair (60) were found guilty of murder of 23-year-old Sharon Raj. The court had earlier convicted the duo for poisoning Sharon with paraquat in October 2022, leading to his death after 11 days of treatment.
However, the sentencing has been delayed, and the quantum of punishment will not be announced on Saturday as initially expected. The reason for the delay remains unclear, and the court will hear further arguments regarding the sentence. The prosecution may also present its side during this phase. The public and families of the accused are awaiting the final decision on the punishment.
Greeshma was convicted of murder, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence, while her mother, Sindhu, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The case revolves around Greeshma’s plot to end her relationship with Sharon, which was seen as an obstacle to her arranged marriage.
