Palakkad: The controversy over naming Buds School in Palakkad after RSS founder Dr Hedgewar continues to stir up the political atmosphere in the district, turning the situation volatile and disrupting normal life. On Thursday, E. Krishnadas, Vice Chairman of BJP-led Palakkad Municipality, said that the municipality would go ahead with the decision to name the Buds School after Hedgewar.
"If the disagreement was about the name of Dr Hedgewar, there would have been ample opportunity to discuss it in the council. If it was only about the name, why was the inauguration ceremony disrupted? Why create a ruckus with baseless stories?" Krishnadas asked.
He also challenged Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA from the Congress, asking what the Congress had done for people with disabilities despite ruling for so long. "Congress’s policy is that development should not happen here. Rahul Mamkootathil should answer what Congress did for people with disabilities after ruling for so many years. Congress has a knack for turning the goat into a dog. I clearly heard the district president’s audio clip. He had not mentioned anything about chopping the legs. But Rahul has twisted the statement, saying that the district president had mentioned chopping his legs. If such distortions are brought up, they won’t matter, and we will continue with our work," Krishnadas said.
The protest was triggered by the naming of the Buds School under the Palakkad Municipality after RSS founder Dr Hedgewar. DYFI and Youth Congress workers had staged a protest during the laying of the foundation stone of the school. The members of the governing body clarified that the name was chosen in honour of a person who inspired many politicians.
