Congress MP Anto Antony faces ₹2 crore repayment row; financier says ₹20 lakh returned.

Pathanamthitta: Congress MP Anto Antony has been accused by financier N.M. Raju of failing to return ₹2 crore received in a financial dealing, with only ₹20 lakh repaid over seven years. The allegation, raised publicly on Saturday, comes alongside separate scrutiny of Raju’s finance firm in the Sabarimala gold theft investigation.
Pathanamthitta MP has been accused by N.M. Raju, proprietor of Nedumparambil Finance and Nedumparambil Credit Syndicate, over a ₹2 crore financial transaction. Raju alleges the amount was given with an assurance it would be returned within two months, but only ₹20 lakh has been repaid over seven years.

He made the allegation while speaking at a press conference on Saturday. According to Raju, the amount was returned in two instalments of ₹10 lakh each.
Raju alleged that he approached the MP “a thousand times” seeking repayment. He also claimed that during a financial crisis faced by his firm, he — along with his daughter — visited the MP’s residence to request the money, but Antony was unwilling to pay.
No collateral cited; personal ties referenced
Raju said the amount was given through his office account without any collateral due to their personal relationship. He added that the assistance was extended at a time when both were part of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
He maintained there was nothing unusual about the transaction and said all documentation was proper. Responding to questions on whether giving money without collateral suggested unaccounted cash, he said how the MP used the funds should be asked of Antony, adding that he was only stating facts.
Raju also said he had refrained from filing a police complaint so far in the hope of recovering the money but had now decided to make the matter public.
Raju noted that when the money was given in 2018–19, Kerala Congress (M) was aligned with the UDF. The party later left the front and decided to align with the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
ED raid linked to separate probe
N.M. Raju owns the finance firm currently under investigation in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. The Enforcement Directorate recently conducted a raid at Nedumparambil Finance as part of a probe into money deposited there by former Sabarimala thantri Kandararu Rajeevaru.
Separately, Congress MP Anto Antony were seen in pictures of the Sabarimala gold theft case key accused Unnikrishnan Potti and Bellary-based jeweler visiting AICC leader Sonia Gandhi in Delhi.
