Thiruvananthapuram: Former Travancore Devaswom Board president P.S. Prasanth has been granted bail in the Sabarimala gold theft case. The Kollam Vigilance Court granted bail on a petition citing health issues. Earlier, the court had rejected Prasanth’s bail plea, where he had stated that there was no evidence of his involvement in the conspiracy.

Prasanth was shifted from jail to a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram last month after suffering a brain hemorrhage. After filing a fresh petition, Prasanth's counsel submitted that he required advanced medical treatment and sought the relief.

After examining his medical records, the court granted him bail

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested P.S. Prasanth on July 23. Former board member A. Ajikumar, who was arrested along with Prasanth, had already been granted bail. Both were arrested by the SIT on July 23.

Prasanth was arrested in connection with the incident in which gold-plated panels from Sabarimala were allegedly taken away illegally for renovation.

According to the SIT’s findings, the gold-plated panels were handed over to Smart Creations in Chennai in 2021 to conceal the alleged gold theft that took place in 2019.

Prasanth was made the 17th accused in the case and arrested on the allegation that he was part of the conspiracy.
