Thrissur: The GST intelligence department is conducting extensive raids at gold jewellery manufacturing centres and shops in Thrissur, leading to the seizure of over 100 kilograms of unaccounted gold. Investigators have uncovered evidence of five years of tax evasion.

The operation is one of the largest raids carried out by the GST department in the state, involving around 700 officers. The raids began late Wednesday night and are ongoing, targeting jewellery factories where gold is melted and crafted, as well as the residences of business owners.

GST Special Commissioner Renn Abraham is overseeing the inspections, which are taking place at approximately 75 locations across the city. Reports indicate that officers were transported to Thrissur by various means, including buses and cars, under the guise of pleasure trips, GST training, or visits to local temples.

The raid has been named ‘Torre del Oro,’ after a famous historic monument in Spain known as the ‘The Golden Tower.’
