Thiruvananthapuram: Reacting to the Union Budget 2024, the lone Left MP from the state, K Radhakrishnan, held that Kerala has been neglected in the first budget of the third Modi Government. Kerala had fought against economic discrimination. Still the state was not considered. He also responded that Kerala was not considered even though BJP has an MP from the state for the first time.

“This budget has turned away from Kerala’s demands of pension schemes, national highway development, Vizhinjam etc. The state was hit by heavy rains during this monsoon resulting in floods in many areas. Thousands of people were affected. Many were given relief funds. The state deserved a better deal as it has been reeling under financial constraints to deal with the natural calamities that hit the state. But, sadly, union budget was silent on the demands of Kerala," Radhakrishnan said.  He also said it is not possible to say that it is a national budget as it is meant for some regions only.

Meanwhile, KPCC president and Kannur MP K Sudhakaran said that the budget presented by Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday proved that no sector of the country is safe in the hands of the Narendra Modi Government.

Pathanamthitta MP Anto Antony said, Kerala's backbone is rubber, but no subsidy for farmers was announced. There is nothing announced for the rehabilitation of expatriates either. He also maintained it as a budget that completely ignored Kerala. He took strong exception to the Central government's indifference towards Erumeli's wait to fly to the dream project.

Muslim League MP Abdusamad Samadani MP said the budget did not utter the word ‘Kerala’.

Kasaragod MP Rajmohan Unnithan said, “Today's budget is a continuation of the Central Government's continuous neglect and humiliation of Kerala.

Pointing fingers at Suresh Gopi and George Kurian, Unnithan said Union Ministers from Kerala could not do anything for the state. There is a strong displeasure against the Central Government that failed Kerala in the budget.
