New Delhi: Kerala has been allocated Rs 1085 crore specifically for railway track doubling projects in the central budget. Out of the total Rs 3011 crore allocated for the state's railway development, this portion is dedicated to double-tracking.
A separate allocation of Rs 5 crore has been made for constructing the third line between Shoranur and Ernakulam. Rs 44.33 crore has been earmarked for building flyovers and underpasses to replace various level crossings. A total of 45 level crossings will be replaced with flyovers and underpasses. Also, Rs 300.19 crore has been allocated for comprehensive line upgrades.

An amount of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the Angamaly-Sabari road project, although clarity on the project's alignment is still pending. Yesterday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained in the Lok Sabha that the new Sabari rail project, which would extend from Chengannur to Pamba, is also under consideration.
Specific allocations for track doubling works include Rs 500 crore for Turavur-Ambalapuzha, Rs 365 crore for Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari, Rs 102.5 crore for Kumbalam-Thuraiyur, Rs 105 crore for Ernakulam-Kumbalam, Rs 11.5 crore for Kuruppanthara-Chengannur, and Rs 1.2 crore for Ambalapuzha-Haripad.
Thiruvananthapuram Division secures Rs 47 lakhs for long train stoppages
The Thiruvananthapuram division alone has been sanctioned Rs 47 lakh for accommodating long trains. An amount of Rs 1 crore has been allocated for the Kollam Track Machine Satellite Depot, Rs 59 lakh for additional pavement at Aluva, and Rs 1 lakh for the construction of a new pit line in Ernakulam.
