Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Minister of Food and Civil Supplies GR Anil on Friday informed that Supplyco shops in the state registered Onam sales turnover of Rs 170 crores between August 19 to 28. Onam fairs were conducted in 1527 Supplyco stores. The sales from the 14 district-level fairs alone were at Rs 6.5 crores. This was Rs 2.51 crores in the previous year, the Minister said.
A large number of economically backward people rely on Supplyco to purchase 13 subsidised goods. The minister claimed that the government was able to ensure the availability of all the subsidised products at Supplyco’s district-level fairs.
13 items that cost around Rs 1200 in the market were available for around Rs 650 in specific quantities. The minister also said that Supplyco incurred an additional liability of around Rs 30 crores due to the Onam special market intervention.
