Alappuzha: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has accused the Kerala government of neglecting basic sections of society while bending laws to favour business interests. The criticism appeared in the party’s performance report presented at the 25th state conference in Alappuzha.

The report highlighted that even the payments due to paddy farmers have not been made. Farmer welfare boards remain stalled due to bureaucratic bottlenecks and the Agricultural Debt Relief Commission is paralysed due to lack of funds. According to the CPI, government priorities have shifted, and existing laws are being circumvented under the guise of “ease of doing business”.

The report further emphasised that the Left front’s foundation lies in labourers, farmers and the underprivileged, whose issues are not being adequately addressed. Greater attention must be paid to resolving the needs of these basic sections. CPI has stated that it is prepared to take a firm stand when government policies threaten these communities and will clarify its position whenever necessary.

Key criticisms highlighted in the report

  • Recruitments are not made, particularly in the private sector, causing strong public dissent.
  • Various welfare boards are non-functional due to delays in fund allocation. The government had announced the establishment of a farmer welfare board, but no schemes have been implemented.
  • Farmers have not received payments for stocked paddy, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
  • Around 5,00,000 workers have lost employment in traditional industries. Jobs in institutions such as KSRTC, KSEB and the Water Authority are decreasing.
