As vote count crosses 16,000, Anwar asserts he’s still backed by LDF voters. He warns UDF to act on hill farmers’ issues or face a third front

Nilambur: Independent candidate P.V. Anvar from Nilambur said that the votes he got in the by-election belonged to the LDF. After nine rounds of voting, Anvar secured more than 10,000 votes. Speaking to the media, Anvar dismissed claims of receiving UDF votes as “baseless.” As of 11 PM, Anvar’s vote share had climbed to around 16,000. In the 2021 Assembly election, he had contested as an LDF candidate and won 81,227 votes, defeating his opponent by a margin of 2,700 votes.
“I stood against Pinarayism which ultimately converted into votes. The majority of the votes were from the LDF core. This will be clear when the voting is completed and the voting percentage is checked. Even though MPs and MLAs were involved deeply, by the time 40 per cent of the votes were counted, I managed to get 10,000 votes. Without considering the issues of the hill farmers and finding a solution to the wildlife attacks they face, no one can easily form a government in 2026,” Anvar said.
Anvar also added that he has already started the process of mobilising the farmers' organisations. “If there is a positive approach from the UDF to solve the problems of the farmers in the hilly region, we will move forward along with the UDF. Otherwise, there will be a third front in Kerala.” Therefore, the UDF should keep its eyes open, said P.V. Anvar.
As the voting process concluded, P V Anvar, secured a total of 19,946 votes.
