Alappuzha: Though the Students Federation of India (SFI) has so far defended Nikhil Thomas in the fake certificate row, CPM is planning to take strict action against the young leader.

CPM Kayamkulam Area Secretary P Aravindakshan remarked that Nikhil has "betrayed the party" and warned about strict action. If anyone helps him, action would be taken against them as well, he added.

Terming the incident unacceptable, Aravindakshan announced a party-level enquiry to examine the controversy that rocked SFI in the state.

Meanwhile, a meeting will be chaired by CPM state secretary MV Govindan in Alappuzha on Tuesday to discuss the district secretariat's decision to demote senior leaders for sectarian activities. The meeting would likely address the admission row at MSM College in Kayamkulam.
