Kannur: IUML leader and former legislator Abdurahiman Randathani on Tuesday made regressive remarks on co-ed schooling and termed curriculum reforms pursued by Kerala government as aimed at destroying religious belief and morality.

“Making teen boys and girls sit together will improve the quality of education, they say. And the craziest part is the topics to be taught: masturbation and homosexuality,” Randathani said with an innuendo.

According to Randathani, women have made huge progress in education. “This was not because they sat together,” he said.

His statements came at the inaugural speech on UDF’s collectorate march.

On Monday, the Congress-led UDF opposition contended in the Kerala assembly that the gender neutral views in the education policy will result in "negation of religion" and "sexual anarchy."

IUML said the proposed policy will create "gender confusion" among children and the general public.

"The education policy aims to bring in gender equality and rational thought. That cannot be allowed at state expense. It will lead to negation of religion. Therefore, it has to be removed from the policy," IUML MLA N Samsudheen claimed in the assembly.

"We do not need gender equality, but need equal opportunities. The gender neutral views will lead to sexual anarchy and that cannot be permitted in education. They (government) are trying to create gender confusion among the children and the public," Samsudheen further claimed.
