Kochi: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)’s investigations into the recent seizure of drugs in Indian waters off Kochi coast have pointed at Pakistan connection.
According to NCB, the narcotic drug seized is from the Pakistan-based Haji Salim drug cartel. The cover used to wrap the drug is also made in Pakistan, NCB claimed. The preliminary assumption is also that the drugs have been manufactured in Pakistan. The boxes seized has three types of symbols and they too suggest Pakistan links.
Meanwhile, a probe is underway to unearth the drug allegedly hoarded in the Arabian Sea. It is also learnt that there are more mafia members and the probe is also directed toward nabbing them.
Indian Navy has been assisting NCB in the probe.
The arrest of Pakistan native nabbed is delayed as the estimation and documentation of the drug seized are not yet over. As of now, documentation of nearly 2,500 kilograms of methamphetamine worth around Rs 12,000 crore has been completed.
It was seized from a vessel in Indian waters along the Kerala coast in a joint operation by the Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the anti-drug agency said on Saturday.
This is the third major seizure by NCB of maritime trafficking of drugs through the southern route in the last one and a half years, the agency said.
