Kochi: In a story reminiscent of a cinematic plot, Naina Jibi has emerged as a real-life protagonist, battling against adversity to bring her late husband's dream to the silver screen. Naina, a resident of Kandanad, Ernakulam bravely faces the challenge of single-handedly completing the film her husband, Manu James, had passionately worked on before his untimely demise.
Married for five years, Naina and Manu shared a profound bond. Following his engineering studies, Manu pursued his passion for cinema and served as an associate in several films. Eventually, he embarked on his directorial debut, "Nancy Rani," a movie centred around a young girl who idolises the legendary actor Mammootty. The film starred notable actors such as Ahaana Krishna, Arjun Ashokan, Lal, Aju Varghese, Indrans, and Lena and was in its final stages of production when tragedy struck.
Last February, Manu was hospitalised due to jaundice, halting the completion of "Nancy Rani." Realising that Manu's condition was critical, Naina approached doctors with a request. "I want to bear Manu's child before he bids farewell to this world." Despite opposition from her family, Naina remained steadfast in her decision. Her request was to carry a child through artificial insemination using her husband's genetic material while he lay on his deathbed in the hospital. The doctors made efforts to make her dream a reality. However, destiny had other plans, and Manu passed away before their dream could be fulfilled.
Left to face the world alone, Naina made a courageous decision to fulfil her beloved's cinematic aspirations. With little knowledge about the world of cinema, Naina with the support of her friends, embarked on a journey to complete "Nancy Rani."
Currently, the post-production work, including editing and mixing, is underway, with hopes of releasing the film in theatres within the next two to three months.
