Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition slammed Kerala police and the state government over the death of a five-year-old girl from Bihar in Aluva.

Opposition Leader in the Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan alleged that the police did not conduct an adequate search to find the child. He questioned the number of policemen deployed for the search, comparing it to the “extensive security measures” of the chief minister. Satheesan further accused the government of failing to control the use of drugs and alcohol in the state. The accused was inebriated when taken into custody on Friday.

In response to the allegations, minister P Rajeev defended the police's efforts and stated that they efficiently apprehended the accused. The minister mentioned that he had spoken to the police on the matter, and the news of the child's disappearance came out around 7 pm on Friday, and by 9:30 pm, the accused was apprehended.

Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath criticised the police for their “lack of vigilance” in the case, as the child's body was found 21 hours after she went missing. He referred to a recent Facebook post by the police with the caption 'Makale Mappu' (meaning 'dear daughter, forgive us') and said that the police must take more proactive measures and cannot merely apologise for their shortcomings.

The tragic incident involved a five-year-old girl Bihar who went missing on Friday evening. After extensive searching, her body was discovered on Saturday. The accused, Ashfaq Alam, has been arrested by police.
