The biggest dream of the prolific writer in Malayalam literature, MT Vasudevan Nair,  to make his famed novel ‘Randamoozham’ a movie is finally bearing fruit. The late writer’s family is currently preparing to make the novel into a pan-Indian film. The official announcements will be out soon.

‘Randamoozham’ is a 1984 mythological drama that involves the retelling of the Indian epic Mahabharata from the perspective of Bhima. The story diverges from the traditional story as it evades the divine elements and re-represent the characters and events realistically.

A lot of directors in the film fraternity had reached out to the writer for this project. As a result of these many discussions, MT found ‘the director’ that he deemed credible enough to spearhead the project. But before any further arrangements were made, the legend succumbed to his ailments and passed away on Christmas evening this year.

Meanwhile, MT’s daughter Aswathi V Nair refuted the rumour circling the media that the said director was chosen for the project by director Mani Ratnam. She also said further details about the upcoming project will be revealed later.

The project is currently in its nascent stage. MT has described how each scene of the movie should be, how the characters behave and portray their elements, how should the attire be - in detail to the director along with the screenplay through a videonote. MT has also shared the five-hour long screenplay of ‘Randamoozham’ in both English and Malayalam to the director.

The notable film maker Mani Ratnam had read the novel ‘Randamoozham’ and had interest in taking it up as a project. But the bigger canvas and time the film demanded made him refrain from his choice.
