Satheesan says the proposed Delimitation Commission will consider the demand, with the CM acknowledging his personal reservations about Muvattupuzha being separated from Ernakulam.
Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has said the state government will examine the demand to create a separate district centred around Muvattupuzha.
Satheesan made the statement while addressing an event organised by the Muvattupuzha Municipality.

Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan had earlier raised the demand, alleging that the region had been neglected during the 10-year tenure of the previous LDF government.
Muvattupuzha is currently part of Ernakulam district and lies close to the Idukki border. The demand is to create a new district by combining parts of eastern Ernakulam with low-lying areas of Idukki.
Satheesan said he had taken note of the grievances raised by Kuzhalnadan and assured that the region's concerns would be addressed.
He said Muvattupuzha had suffered a development backlog and promised that the pending development would be compensated.

Delimitation Commission to examine demand
Satheesan said the government would constitute a Delimitation Commission and that the demand for a separate Muvattupuzha district would be considered as part of that process.
He also said he felt personally saddened by the possibility of Muvattupuzha being separated from Ernakulam, his home district, but maintained that the demand would be seriously examined.
