Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP will organise a ‘Seva Jyothi Yatra’ at 30 centres across Kerala on October 7 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public service, state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Chandrasekhar said similar programmes would be held across all BJP organisational districts in the country.

Two-wheeler rallies at 30 centres

The programmes will begin with public meetings from 10 am, followed by two-wheeler rallies involving thousands of BJP workers and youngsters, Chandrasekhar said.

He said the event was not intended to celebrate or personally idolise Modi, but to highlight what he described as the culture of service, development and performance that the Prime Minister had brought to politics over the past 25 years.

BJP highlights Modi’s 25 years in public life

Chandrasekhar said Modi, during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, had led development and social change despite major challenges.

He cited changes in areas including education, empowerment of women and girls, welfare of tribal and backward communities, and infrastructure.

According to Chandrasekhar, Modi inherited several challenges when he became Prime Minister in 2014, including a weak economy, a distressed banking system, unemployment and security concerns.

He claimed that India's progress in the areas of economy, infrastructure and national security over the past 12 years had received global recognition.

Describing Modi's 25 years in politics as “politics of service” and “politics of performance”, Chandrasekhar said the Seva Jyothi Yatra would focus on these themes.

BJP asks people to compare UPA, CPM rule

Chandrasekhar urged people to compare Modi's 25 years in public life with the 10-year UPA rule led by the Congress and the 10 years of CPM rule in Kerala.

“Let the people themselves assess which politics has brought development, opportunities and change in their lives,” he said.

Chandrasekhar targets UDF government

The BJP state president also targeted the Congress-led UDF government in Kerala, saying its performance should be assessed based on its first 150 days in office.

He questioned what people had received from a government that came to power promising a “New Kerala” and five guarantees.

Chandrasekhar alleged that people were seeing luxury vehicles for ministers, private jet travel by the Chief Minister, power restrictions and shortages of medicines in hospitals, while the announced guarantees had not been implemented.

Chandrasekhar further alleged that the state government had failed to ensure that people benefited from Central schemes including PM Awas Yojana, PM SHRI and Ayushman Bharat.

He also alleged that the government's priority was to provide the Muslim League a sixth Cabinet berth.

BJP calls for debate on politics and development

Chandrasekhar said the public should also discuss what the Congress and CPM's politics had delivered to the country and Kerala.

He said people should decide whether the state needed a politics focused on solving problems, creating development and expanding opportunities, or one that, in his words, created “controversies and anarchy”.
