Guwahati: The BJP will organise a month-long nationwide campaign, ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in parliamentary politics and public service.

The campaign will begin on September 17, coinciding with Modi’s birthday, and will feature 13 programmes across the country. Assam is also preparing to participate in the month-long initiative, with activities planned at state, regional and district levels.

According to the BJP release, Modi entered the executive office in Gujarat on October 7, 2001, when he took oath as the state’s Chief Minister. He later became Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, and has since secured three consecutive mandates to lead the country.

BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said preparations are underway for a series of programmes highlighting various aspects of the Prime Minister’s public service journey.

The planned activities include “Namo Seva Gatha,” “Anganwadi Utsav,” “Rangoli,” “Parivartan Ki Kahani,” “Seva Setu Abhiyan,” “Seva Ke Nimitta Bhagidari,” “Jan Sevak Mahakumbh,” “Painting, Elocution and Quiz Competitions,” “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,” “Seva Jyoti Yatra,” and the “National Innovation Competition,” among others.

A state-level committee has been formed to coordinate and monitor the campaign in Assam. State General Secretary Anup Barman heads the committee, which includes Cabinet Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Rajya Sabha MP Terash Gowala, State Secretary Ratul Sharma, MLA Bijoy Malakar and Yuva Morcha president Rakesh Das.

Several sub-committees have also been set up, with senior party leaders assigned responsibilities at different organisational levels to ensure coordinated implementation of the programmes.

The opening event, titled “Ashirbadar Banti” (Lamp of Blessings), will be held on September 17.

Kalita said BJP workers across more than 31,000 booths in Assam will light lamps at their homes as a gesture of goodwill and blessings for the Prime Minister.

He also said district-level training programmes for the campaign began on Sunday to prepare party workers for the various activities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia will oversee the implementation of the programmes, according to Kalita.

State ministers, ruling BJP legislators and party workers across Assam are also expected to participate in the month-long campaign.
