New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving head of government in India, completing 8,931 days in office across his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister, marking a major political milestone.

With this, Modi has surpassed Pawan Kumar Chamling, who previously held the record with 8,930 days as Chief Minister of Sikkim. The achievement places Modi in his 25th year in a top leadership role, underlining continuity and longevity in Indian politics.

Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) congratulated the Prime Minister, describing his tenure as a reflection of dedication, governance and national service.

J P Nadda termed the milestone a proud moment for the country, highlighting Modi’s journey from Gujarat Chief Minister to leading India on the global stage. He noted that the Prime Minister’s leadership has been driven by people-centric policies benefiting the poor, youth, women and farmers.

Kiren Rijiju described the achievement as a testament to consistent governance, integrity and nation-first leadership, while Piyush Goyal emphasised Modi’s long-standing commitment to inclusive development and economic growth.

Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the Prime Minister’s enduring leadership, noting that his tenure reflects stability, governance experience and sustained public trust.

Focus on development, welfare and ‘Viksit Bharat’

The government’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) has also been positioned as a national mission, focusing on economic growth, self-reliance and global competitiveness.

Leaders further noted that under Modi’s tenure, India’s global standing and diplomatic influence have strengthened significantly, with a greater focus on economic partnerships and international cooperation.
