Another controversy has rocked the LDF, with allegations against NCP leader Thomas K. Thomas, claiming he offered Rs. 100 crore to two MLAs to persuade them to join the NCP Ajith Pawar group. Reports indicate that the offer was made to Antony Raju, former minister and the lone MLA of the Janadhipathya Kerala Congress, and Kovoor Kunjumon, a leader from RSP (Leninist). Thomas allegedly proposed Rs 50 crore each to these two leaders for their defection to the NCP Ajith Pawar group, which is an ally of the BJP in Maharashtra.
It is also reported that Thomas K. Thomas's entry into the Kerala cabinet was impacted by this operation, as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan became aware of the secret move. Upon learning of the situation, the Chief Minister contacted both Antony Raju and Kovoor Kunjumon to inquire about the incident. He subsequently reported this in the CPM state secretariat meeting.
In response, Thomas K. Thomas, the MLA from the Kuttanad constituency in Alappuzha, denied the allegations and informed the Chief Minister in a letter that they are entirely baseless.
Antony Raju has stated that, based on secret information, the Chief Minister called him, and he revealed some serious matters during their conversation. However, Kovoor Kunjumon has refuted the claim that Rs 50 crore was offered to switch his loyalty to the NCP Ajith Pawar group. “Nobody has offered me money. I have not discussed this matter with either Antony Raju or Thomas K. Thomas. The Chief Minister called me and informed me about this. I said that I had not received any such offers. Antony Raju and Thomas K. Thomas are my good friends, but we have not talked about any such deals,” Kunjumon said.
“I deserved more, but didn’t get anything. Still, I have not complained about this to anyone,” he added.
