Idukki: Police have booked a contractor and assistant executive engineer over the road accident of a couple due to the apparent laxity of the PWD.

The incident happened on Saturday morning when Johny and his wife were on their way to buy medicines.

As construction works are progressing at Thodupuzha’s Karikkode- Kallanickal road, a thin plastic rope was tied to regulate the traffic in the stretch. However, there was no indication mark. The rope was invisible and it strangled Johny’s neck. The couple toppled on the road as Johny lost control of the bike. As the rope slashed Johny's neck, he was rushed to the district hospital.

Meanwhile, though police reached the office concerned to quiz the engineer over the matter, he was not there. The contractor will be interrogated on the next day, an official said.

In a related development, a similar mishap happened in Thrissur’s Ayyanthole.
