Palakkad: The Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union (Milma) will roll out the Snehamitra Life Insurance Scheme for dairy farmers and dairy society employees from December 1. The one-year scheme is being implemented in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).

Under the initiative, dairy farmers supplying milk to primary co-operative societies, along with both permanent and temporary employees, will be eligible to enrol during the current financial year.

The scheme offers financial assistance ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹5 lakh to dependents in the event of natural or accidental death. It is expected to benefit more than one lakh farmers across Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

Those aged 18 to 59 years will receive ₹5 lakh in coverage, while beneficiaries aged 65 to 69 years will receive ₹50,000, and those above 69 years will be eligible for ₹20,000.

Premium contributions will range from ₹36.02 to ₹450.50, depending on the coverage slab, with the regional union sharing the cost.

Milma’s Managing Director said farmers interested in joining the scheme should register through their respective dairy societies by November 5.
