Kochi: Another child from a private school in Kalamassery has been diagnosed with cerebral meningitis, increasing the total number of cases to four. The latest case was confirmed after the child, who was already under treatment for symptoms, tested positive for the infection.

Following the outbreak, the school has been temporarily shut as a precautionary measure. Earlier, three students, aged seven and eight, had sought treatment at a private hospital in Kochi after experiencing severe headaches and vomiting. Hospital officials confirmed that their health condition remains stable.

In light of the situation, primary-level exams at the affected school have been postponed. Parents have been urged to monitor their children for symptoms such as headaches and vomiting and to keep them at home if any signs appear.

District Medical Officer Dr Asha Devi assured that there is no immediate cause for concern but emphasised the need for vigilance. She advised those who had close contact with the infected children to take precautions, including wearing masks, to prevent further spread of the disease.
