The name ‘Akmirra’ itself symbolises “eyes that reflect wonder and true reality

Kottakkal: “This teacher is super…” gasped students in amazement as they received instant answers to their questions. With the ability to teach any subject and fluency in 51 languages, including Sanskrit, this is no ordinary teacher.
It's Akmirra, an AI-powered humanoid robot now deployed at AKM Higher Secondary School in Malappuram, Kerala.
Developed with artificial intelligence, AKMIRRA (Advanced Knowledge-Based Machine for Intelligent Responsive Robotic Assistance) is designed to understand and respond to the emotional cues of students, creating a classroom experience that’s both interactive and empathetic.
Impressively, the robot can even converse in the local dialect of Malappuram, where the school is located.
The name ‘Akmirra’ itself symbolises “eyes that reflect wonder and true reality.” Capable of autonomous learning, Akmirra gathers information from the internet and its surroundings, creates lesson content, and delivers it in real-time.
Principal Alikadavandi and Headmistress K.K. Saibunnisa said the robot’s ability to understand student emotions and challenges allows it to engage with children just like a real teacher.
Akmirra was built with the participation of students from the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab, under the guidance of teacher C.S. Sandeep, who led the design process.
The robot was officially inaugurated by Municipal Education Standing Committee Chairperson P. Ramla and Malappuram DySP K.M. Biju. PTA President P. Ifthikharudeen presided over the ceremony. Also present were ward member M. Muhammed Haneefa, School Manager Ibrahim Haji, K. Mariya, N. Vineetha, Staff Secretary M. Mujeeb Rahman, ATL Coordinator Jaseem Sayyaf, and other dignitaries.
