Thiruvananthapuram: The row between a KSRTC bus driver and the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram has been a point of discussion since yesterday as what actually transpired still remains unclear. There is one witness that saw the whole thing with an unbiased view- the CCTV cameras installed in the bus.

The KSRTC bus RPC 101 of Thiruvananthapuram depot, which witnessed the whole row, has a total of three surveillance cameras. All allegations made by the Mayor can be verified using the visuals captured on these cameras but the police are yet to do so.

In the current situation, the visuals may be lost at any given time. But even KSRTC officials are silent as far as the verification of camera visuals are concerned.

This bus is one among those that was fitted with surveillance cameras as per the instructions of Minister for transport, K.B Ganesh Kumar. There are cameras in the front, back and inside the bus. The storage capacity of visuals recorded is one week. The footage from the driver’s cabin will also be recorded. A simple viewing of these visuals would bring about much needed clarity to the case.

Evidence of how long the bus and car travelled together on the road will also be obtained. But none of these have been released at the moment. H.L Yadu, the bus driver who was a temporary employee has been suspended from service even before the inquiry report is submitted.

With CPM state secretary M.V Govindan coming forth in support of Mayor Arya Rajendran and her husband MLA Sachindev, KSRTC officials are inching towards closing the case by putting all the blame on the bus driver.

The question remains as to why the police have failed to check the surveillance visuals that will help prove the  allegations made by the Mayor, including the claim that the driver made an obscene gesture towards the women in the car.
