
Puthumala: The bodies of unidentified individuals who died in the landslide disaster in Wayanad will be laid to rest on Sunday here. In Puthumala, a mass grave is being prepared on a plot of land provided free of charge by Harrison Malayalam Limited. This site is also where a landslide occurred in 2019.
A total of 67 unidentified bodies have been kept at Meppadi Taluk Hospital. Five of these bodies were cremated on Saturday at the Kalpetta public crematorium. The bodies of 27 people will be cremated in the second phase.
Additionally, more than 50 body parts, including limbs, will be cremated in a separate pit. The cremation will follow an interfaith prayer. A special tent has also been prepared for the prayer. The death toll of the Wayanad landslide disaster has reached 355, with more remaining missing.
