Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty visited the rehabilitation township built by the Kerala government for families affected by the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide in Wayanad.

The actor arrived at the township around 12 noon on Saturday and walked through the settlement, interacting with residents and enquiring about their living conditions. Several township residents took photographs with the actor during his visit.

Speaking while leaving, Mammootty praised the rehabilitation initiative and described it as an example of Kerala’s social values. He said the township reflected collective compassion and community support.

He stated that the project represents “social capital” built by the people of Kerala.

“This is rare. This has been created by the people of a land coming together for those who are helpless and have suffered calamities. Compassion and empathy are highest in Kerala,” Mammootty said, highlighting the state’s community spirit.

The township was built to house survivors of the landslide that struck the Mundakkai-Chooralmala region, a disaster that caused significant damage and displaced several families. The rehabilitation effort aims to provide long-term shelter and support for affected residents.

District leaders, including CPM District Secretary K. Rafeeq and Township Chief Operating Officer Arun, accompanied the actor during the visit.

The visit was widely shared on social media, with many users appreciating Mammootty’s gesture of meeting survivors and showing solidarity with the displaced families. The actor did not announce any official donation or political statement during the visit.

The rehabilitation township continues to house families affected by the 2024 landslide tragedy, which remains one of the major disaster events in the region.
